SO YOU’RE A GRADUTE?
Well first off, congratulations!!!! It means a lot to have graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. You’ve worked hard and your grind does not go unnoticed. You may now feel that pursuing a JD will give you the further tools you need to fulfill your career path. Or, you may have always desired to pursue a JD, and took some time off from school to grow and gain experience. Whatever the case may be, welcome to the process.
The average age of a 1L is 25 years old so most law school students do not matriculate immediately after undergrad graduation. When compiling your application, draw from your professional/educational experience in the most unique way possible. What have you been able to accomplish during your time after graduation that will distinguish you from your peers in a law school classroom? What experiences are you now able to bring? Has work experience or obtaining a further degree motivated you to now pursue your law degree? Why and what do you plan to pursue upon graduation because of this? All of these questions are key to consider as you complete the personal statement portion of your application.
Don’t get discouraged through this process. If you’ve been out of school for a few years and are nervous about getting back into the academic space, trust yourself and trust the process. You are valuable and needed in these spaces and what’s meant for you can not be taken away.
